Paraguay may not be the most popular tourist destination South America but it doesn’t mean that this country doesn’t have anything to offer to its visitors. You would commonly hear from your friends about vacations in Brazil, Peru or Argentina but not usually Paraguay. Paraguay is inherent in rich culture and unforgettable architecture. The city also reflects a reminiscent of Spanish culture since it was colonized by Spain. Paraguay is popularly known as the 'Heart of America'.

1. Iguazu Falls

At a towering height of 900 meters, Iguazu falls is one of the most popular destinations in this country. It is shared by Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. It is the Niagara falls of South America. Its near the town of Ciudad del Este where you'll find good items to shop and take souvenirs home.

2. Museo del Barrio

The best place to find art in Paraguay is Museo del Barrio where you'll find artworks describing the cultural heritage of the country. Amongst the paintings and sculptures, you'll find artwork representing old and new Paraguay by local artists. Artworks showing religious identity of 16th century is also one of the attractions of this gallery.

3. La Santisima Trinidad de Parana

If you're interested in Christianity and missionaries and the history of how the spread of Christianity happened in Paraguay, then head for La Santisima Trinidad de Parana. There are ruins here of the old city built for the converts. The Government has done a great job in preserving the ruins and hence it revives history when you witness it.

4. Casa de los Diputados

Casa de los Diputados is another example of Spanish heritage in Paraguay. Located in Asuncion, it reveals the culture of Paraguay under the influence of Spain. Historically, this building served as the blood bank during the Chaco war. Travelers are welcome to explore this creative building without paying any fee.

5. Panteon Nacional de los Heroes

If you want some memorable souvenirs from Paraguay to send back to your friends, then head for Panteon Nacional de los Heroes. It is a plaza where you'll find vendors selling bows and arrows, headdresses, pottery, miracle knife sharpeners, herbal medicines etc. During public holidays, this plaza becomes even more lively by dance and music performances.

6. Casa De La Independencia

It is Asunción's oldest building and also the historical landmark where Paraguayans announced their independence from Spain in 1811. It is deeply revered by Paraguayans. It is inherently a museum showing a wide collection of coins, speeches, furniture etc.

7. Gran Hotel Del Paraguay

A hotel which is actually a tourist spot? This is something you wont find in most places around the world. The reason for its popularity is that it is the oldest 19th century building of Paraguay and yet continues to provide luxury services. You can see a panoramic view of the city from the hotel and get awed by his ancient architecture
