1. Galibi
This natural reserve is a semi tourist attraction and it is a big natural reserve for sea turtles. The sandy beach of Galibi serves as a resting place for these turtles and tourists can come and observe them in their natural habitat. The funds collected by tourism go to biological research of these turtles. You can reach their by boat from Albina
2. Arapahu Island
Spend a day relaxing at the Arapahu Island where you’ll witness an amazing collection of exotic wildlife which include animals, birds, insects, and fishes. This island is surrounded by Corantijn River where you can do eco fishing or simply lay down in the sun. You can do various activities on this island such as visit the enticing Anora and King George falls, hike on the mysterious rocks, rent a speed boat and go boating along the clear river, watch the different species of birds as they cross you, or simply swim in the waters.
3. Central Suriname Natural Reserve
Head down at the Center Suriname Natural Reserve to get a taste of a true UNESCO world heritage rain forest. It is home to some of the most fascinating animals known to mankind such as jaguar, giant armadillo, giant river otter, tapir, sloths, eight species of primates. Not only animals, but also birds such as the harpy eagle, Guiana Cock of the rock, and scarlet macaw are some of its attractions.
4. Raleigh Falls
Raleigh falls is popular for its extensive bird species. It is considered a bird watcher’s heaven. It is near the Coppername River which is itself an amazing tourist destination. Waterfalls and monkeys are the main attraction of this area making you feel closer to nature with every breath. Usually a tour to this falls includes you travelling to the village Witagron on a jeep which itself is an adventurous ride bumping up and down. From there, you reach the Foengoe Island on a dug-out canoe where you stay for one night. And then it’s all you on foot in the entire area. Seems exciting, doesn’t it?
5. Awarradam Jungle
Awarradam jungle lodge is a mixture of culture and rain forest where you will see African traditions in the lush green forest. It is located in Grand Rio River. A boat trip from here will take you to the villages of Sarramacans where you will actually get to see tribal folk and their culture.
6. Paramaribo
If you want to explore some history in Suriname, then head for its capital Paramaribo where you won’t be able to get your eyes off their colonial architecture. You will find religious sites of various faiths, such as huge statues of Hindu deities, old wooden Cathedrals, and Muslim mosques. Other attractions include butterfly parks, markets, Fort Zeelandia, and many more.
